.....seeing as how America's so called "taste in music" went down the shitter. Those of you who don't watch the show, I apologize for this post. I can no longer channel my passion/anger/joy through OC anymore so Paula/Simon/Randy/Ryan are my new vehicle for said emotions. I get excited/sad over other things too, don't worry.

So. Thursday night. Emotion-filled night for all loyal American Idol fans I'm sure. For those who don't tune in, they had the big "Top 12" show Thurs, basically eliminating 2 males and 2 females for the final 6 guys/6 girls. Pretty big thing, right next to the Top 24. So the first guy voted off, Jared/Jason/Jeremy/some "J" guy Cotter was voted off. Eh, no biggie. He's forgettable. Mediocre voice. Mouth bothered me. First girl voted off, the controversial Antonella Barba (controversial because of some scandy pics posted on the internet intended for her bf... yeah right). Well deserved. Only made it to the Top 24 because of her looks. I thought she was a genuinely good singer during the first and second rounds of auditions but then I don't know what happened, maybe it's super hard to sing w/ music and background singers? Didn't think it was rocket science, I don't know how those ear plugs are but whatevs. So she was booted, praise the Lord. Now. Hold onto your panties..... next potential victims were Haley and Sabrina. No brainer, Sabrina would be in the Top 12, that's easy! Some background, may I? Haley is a nameless, faceless white girl who has an overly vibrato voice and in short, sings like crap. Even Simon said that he couldn't remember her name. Paula scolded him but honestly, that is exactly how I felt as well (see? Simon and I are soulmates, haha jk). Sabrina, on the other hand, is this beautiful black girl (not that looks count!) who can belt like her life depends on it. She reminds me of the black version of Nicole (facially), lead singer of PCD, but can sing even better. She apparently didn't choose the "right song" to sing on Wed night but consistently sings reeeeeeally well. Let me put this in other words, she sang a "weird" song ("Don't Let Go" by EnVogue I believe?) but still nailed it. Despite the song choice, when Ryan asked if she would make it to the top 12, all the judges confidently nodded their heads, Simon adding in "100% yes."

There's the problem. When we hear that, people automatically think "Oh she's safe, we don't need to vote" and then they panic and vote for those who got the "I'll be shocked if you're still here next week" from Simon. STOP SAYING THAT, SIMON! You see these looks of utter shock and anger from Paula and Simon (Randy just kind of sits there saying "yo" and "dawg") and it's because they basically sway America's vote but almost use unintentional reverse psychology (if you want to call it that). They WANT America to vote for their faves which is why they say "Ohh you're so great, you'll be here next week" but it does just the opposite, making the fans of the decent singers sit on their arses (not me, said the flea!) and the small percentage of sucky singer fans freak out and run to the phone. In turn, Sabrina was sent home, leaving us with the 45 yr old woman trapped in a 20-something body, watered down, mediocre voice, forgettable face (I'm sorry if any of you are distantly related to her, don't take it personally). Frustrating. THEN the second set of guys go up, Sunjaya (or as I like to call him, Sungina) and Sundance, yes, those are their real names. Now, I'm not a huge fan of either one so I wasn't particularly as "riled up" as I was for Sabrina and Haley. Sundance did really well during auditions but just getting a little tired of him. Sungina is an okay singer, JUST okay. Does NOT know how to perform, it looks like a cross between a train wreck and a middle school talent show. Moves are extremely robotic and awkward, even I get embarrassed watching. He has the voice of a pre-pubescent boy going through some sort of identity crisis, seeing as how his locks were probably more luxurious than Paula's on Tues night (or in Ryan's words, "I don't know who has the extentions, Paula or Sunjaya"). Making an already long story short, Sundance was sent home. Although I wasn't a huge fan of either, I hated Sundance least and you could also see it in the judges' faces. When asked if the right people were placed in the Top 12, all three judges agreed that no, the wrong people had been sent home ("no offense to those that made it" Paula made a point to say). I can say that I am pleased the best of the best are still around, sadly Sabrina can't join them but the music industry would be crazy not to sign her.

My faves: Blake, both Chris's, LaKisha, Melinda, and Gina (Colleen's friend from HS). My predictions for winners would be Blake (seems like he has a huge fan base) and Melinda. LaKisha is AMAZING, better than Mendisa last year according to some, but doesn't have the fan base to make it to the top. Hopefully I'm proven wrong, but Melinda can blow anyone away as well. We'll see! The way things are going now, we'll end up with Sungina or Haley as the "flawless" singers and "shining" personalities this great nation looks up to.

Not to mention for those who get a kick out of voting for the shittiest, aka votefortheworst.com, don't come bitching to me when they start playing Sungina's version of "Shadows of the Night" 24/7 on the radio after he wins. Or maybe Haleys watered down rendition of "Total Eclipse of the Heart." Not ONE complaint.

I despise Sundays. I really do. A lot of people love Sundays because they can just "lounge around" and watch PBS specials, well you know what? You can lounge around on a Saturday too. Then you can go out and get schwasted and dance your pants off or you can decide to continue the lounging. Phew. I've said my piece.

This weekend was nothing short of eventful. I suppose it was just a rerun of every other weekend so nothing to write home about... although I'm already here so I don't know why I'd waste time sennding a letter to my current location. Waste of a stamp.

Friday night was a night downtown with Linds, Garret, and Jeff, later meeting up with Jessie, Sarah, Katie, Jeremy (loves him!) and other randoms. Spent our time at Top Hat (my first time there, proud to say I didn't get a martini), Firehouse and Pi. Linds and I sadly got separated somewhere between Top Hat and Firehouse. Apparently they'd only let two other people in (Jeff and I) and we thought Linds and Garret were already in the bar *oops* Jeremy bought me two roses from the pseudo Tracy Chapman aka The Rose Guy (no worries, Jeremy plays for a different team if you know what I mean) and they were lovely, I drunkingly threw them in a vase when I got home. Pi was delightful as always. Of course Jeff HAD to go to Perkin's although the service goes down the shitter around bar close so it took a million hours to get our food but I happily volunteered Jeff to cover our mini chimi appetizers :P

Next day... what did I do? Oh, woke up hungover around 10:30 am and for some reason went to the Y. Eliptical'ed for 30 mins or so, couldn't take it, went home, slept, woke up again at 1 pm to find the cellie in the shower (don't ask how it got there, I have no idea). Dindin at Legends in DP with Katie, Jeff, Linds and Garret. Katie and Jeff weren't man enough to tough it out and go out again so it was the 3 musketeers and we headed off to Player's to see a live band. Met up with Kim and her boo where I deemed myself the fifth wheel, feeling like I was crashing a double date. Gotta love it. Band was mediocre, only entertainment was provided by a fa'mullet adorned 45 yr old Harley-loving woman with a fanny pack. Promptly left Player's and made our way to DP. Um, most packed we've EVER seen the Naw so we walked in three feet and immediately turned around. Gecko the same way. The only bar you could stand in without basically butt fucking someone else (s'cuse the French) was El Toro so we had a pitcher there. Got bored with that place, decided to head downtown to C Street, this really chill bar that looks like a family room/den/hair salon. Vaguely remember drunk dialing Billy, trying to sing that "Miss You" song by Everyone but the Girl, but the chorus came out something along the lines of "like the devil miss the rain" as well as "like a devil desperately" so that didn't really work out to say the least. Closed down the bar and Brad graciously dropped me back off at home.

I'd have to say I'm pretty pumped about tax returns. Obvi, everyone is but this is one of the first years where my parents haven't either a. forced me to put it in my savings acct, or b. put it toward my suffering car (RIP Loretta). I finally get to use (most of) it as "fun money" in Boston (49 days!!!!!!). Dear God, let April get here post haste.....

February 15th, 2007

How was my weekend, you ask? Friday night I relaxed for a while after work then picked Jeff up for a movie. Originally we were going to see Hannibal Rising but we wanted to go in a larger group so sprung for Pursuit of Happyness (so alike, I know). Very very very good movie. Teared up a little at the end. Will Smith is a pretty deece (abbreve for "decent") actor. SID should know cause that's her ex bf's fave actor, right SID? haha. Actually it was Denzel Washington but she was put under pressure after he asked what his fave actor was and he was counting down the time. He just gave her the hints 1. it was a male and 2. African American. Personally, Will Smith wouldn't be the first black actor off the top of my head, hence why I found this so amusing. Anyways! After the movie we drove around for a bit, this point it's approx midnight, I get some calls from Jessie (Katie's roomie) and Linds, saying that they're all downtown. Dropped Jeff off home at 12:30 am and headed downtown. Met up with Linds and Garret at Pi, also ran into some old Marketplace fools, like Christine and Tom #101. Def some fun sober (for me) times.

Saturday was Curly's with the extended fam. I've concluded I'm not a huge fan of that restaurant. Maybe it's just what I'm ordering but this time I ordered booyah (BAAAAD idea... you want that homemade, not from a restaurant) and a chicken Caesar salad.. can't really go wrong with that, right? Wrong. Barely any dressing on the entire salad and the chicken was cold. *shudders* After the less-than-mediocre lunch I showered and met up with Linds to buy our plane tickets to Baaahhhhhh-ston. Yes, yes, it is offish. We're going! Only 53 more days :) It sounds better to say less than two months. We leave April 10th and come back the 15th. Four full days in the splendid city, I hope I pick up their accent lol. One could only hope.

Saturday night Linds, Garret and I had a quick dinner at Jimmy John's then traversed to Pulaski to see an 80s cover band at some bar called Cocktails. They were amazing. They sang "Don't Want to Lose Your Love Tonight" and seriously, if you closed your eyes, you could have sworn you were listening to the original recording. A little disappointed because Linds and I were told they always play Journey but they played some song no one knew. They were all "Oh this one isn't a single but it's awesome." K fine, play that but right after, you need to play some "Don't Stop Believin'." There were all these 40somethings with neon Arctic Cat jackets and boufant hair. One women in particular, with her acid washed jeans pulled up to her belly button, was tearing up the floor with her flailing arms and kicking legs. At one point she dragged a table out in the middle of the dance floor and proceeded to incessantly jump around the table while pretending it was a keyboard. I pray to the dancing gods that my dancing skills don't deteriorate to that level when I'm in my 40s (not honking my own horn, I don't think I'm a great dancer or anything but at least I don't bounce around tables... but I wouldn't put it past myself). Around 11 pm we left the bar and made our way downtown. Met up with Jeff at Pi, tipped back a few more, freaked out when they played "Blinded by the Light," and Lindsey stuck her finger in some girls mouth on accident while she was dancing. Hit up XS around 1 am where we ran into Jenni and our friend Krista. At the end of the night I recall being thoroughly upset, as the bouncer announced "The night is dead as Anna Nicole." Not cool with me. I don't care if you think she's a bimbo, kind of mean to crack jokes, especially this soon. They couldn't have said "as dead as Hitler?" or maybe "as dead as the band Dream?" Guess not.

So I sent out this forward to my mom and co-workers today of all these achingly adorable baby pandas. I asked my mom if I could have one, that Milo (our cat) won't mind and for the record, she said "yeah, for a couple months until you get your own place." So let it be known that I'm getting a baby panda on May 27th :) This is for the record so if my mom ever turns around and says she didn't say that, we'll point at LJ, the legal document.

Dear Brianna

Cute story. So lastnight at my uncle's gf's 50th bday party, my mom was telling me a story about my cousin, Ericka (approx 5, MAYBE 6 years old). Her brother, Ben (maybe about 15) was dating this girl Brianna who Ericka didn't take much of a liking to since she felt this girl was "sabotaging" the relationship between Ericka and Ben (just over-protectiveness, I suppose). Ericka decided to write a letter to this Brianna without telling anyone. Didn't need help with spelling or anything, she's basically a genius. I present to you Ericka's tactic to get Brianna to break up with her brother....

Dear Brianna,
Ben picks his nose. Ben pinches my boob* and throws pillows at me. I don't think you should be Ben's boyfriend**.

How did she address the envelope? Puts her first name on the top left corner and Brianna's first name in the middle. No other info. I know she's five but that is just too cute. How far would that get in the mail? She didn't tell her mom she wrote this letter but coincidentally, Ben and Brianna broke up (without being sent the letter), but my aunt spotted the letter and snuck a peak (but she didn't tell Ericka).

* My aunt thinks she meant when Ben tickles her, or she just made it up completely.
** Obviously, the "boyfriend" part was a mistake. She's not a drag queen.

I love young minds.

(no subject)

Almost been a month. If LJ were my child, social services would have been called long ago. I can't tell if this update will be short or long. Deal (if you want).

Obviously nothing major has happened since my last update otherwise I would have updated sooner. Went to Chicago last weekend for a long weekend, left Wed night and didn't come back until last Sunday. I was extremely pleased because normally I'll promise to visit Billy, K-herb, my ex boss Jesse, whomever else is around the Chicagoland area and I never really have the chance because I'm usually there late Fri night until Sun afternoon. I called up Billy and K-herb last Thurs night for dinner plans while Mark was at work. Met them at Applebee's at 7 (of course I had Mark DVR the OC at 8) and caught up for a couple hours. Friday Mark, his mom, and I took a drive in the country for a while. Later on while Mark was at work I got bored and ran to Target for whatever I could find. Picked up a pair of peek-a-boo heels which I've been meaning to get for a while, some candles (for my new candle holders), and a novel, The Glass Castle (just for something to read during the weekend while Mark was gone). Went grocery shopping once Mark got home then came back and chilled with his 'rents while they regaled us with stories of yore. Saturday we were planning on going to a museum but Mark wasn't feeling too hot so we stayed in for a majority of the day. Had a hankering for Olive Garden (when don't I??) so had a late lunch there. Stopped by his bro, Dan's apartment downtown later on that night then we went to see "Catch and Release," a romantic comedy with Jennifer Garner. It wasn't as chick flick-ish as I would have expected, which is a good thing. Don't really have any strong feelings about it either way, it's pretty good but nothing to write home about. Sunday was yet another relaxing day, took another drive, went to Applebee's for lunch, didn't want to leave for home too too late so I was out the door by 4:30. Gave Linds a call when I got back into GB, swung by her boy's apt for some "Last Samurai" and sake (fitting). Got a little tired/bored so we decided to drive around downtown for a while when Lindsey suggested we go to XS, a gay nightclub. Happened to be goth/industrial night. I thought she was joking but apparently not, so I decided what the hell? Let's go for one drink. Sipped on a Miller Lite while watching Marilyn Manson scream on the TV. Nice. haha

This past weekend was absolutely fabulous. Friday night was a night out with Lindsey, my cousin, Jenny, her bf, James, and his friend, Jon. First stop was Confetti's where we stayed for quite a few drinks, then it was off to the staple of every weekend, Pi. Around quarter to 2, Linds and I are craving a visit to XS, so Lindsey's bf (he was sober) offers to drive us over. Note all the bars I mentioned are dance clubs, hence why the feet are a little sore today. Saturday I got to see my Katie H and Billy again. Picked up Katie for some din (Bill was tired or some bullshit) at Noodles. Reminicsed about dances, college in general, I missed her since last Thursday! lol. After dinner we went over to 515 (CCHams house) where they were crashing. Played some Guitar Hero and then it was off to my uncle's gf's 50th bday party at some bar on the east side. Picked up Linds, stayed for about an hour or so. Sadly had to leave just as more and more of my crazy relatives were showing up. On my way back home to drop Linds off my Aunt Debbie calls to inform me they are forming teams for flippy cup. Damnit! I told her I had to see my friends but they better practice to bring on their A-game for my dad's 50th bday party this summer. After dropping off Linds I met up with Bill and K-herb once more at the TKE house where one of the alum was entertaining us with prank calls to Blockbuster which he's apparently been doing for the past ten years....
A snippet of one call:
Blockbuster employee - Thank you for calling, how may I help you?
TKE - Hi, ummmm..... I think your cat is in my garden...
BE - *pauses* What?
T - Your cat is in my garden.
BE - I don't know what you're talking about....
T - I just told you, your cat is in my garden and I need you to pick it up.
BE - I don't have a cat.
T - I don't have a garden. *click*

Guess you'd have to be there. Other calls included a lost condom, defective popcorn that won't pop, and a Canadian quarter. Provided some good laughs. Finally went to the bars around midnight with Bill, K-herb and Jack (Loves him!). Katie graciously drove us to the Naw, stayed there for a while, met up with Becky (ADMAR queen), ran to Baba's for a drink, back to the Naw to close it down. Met Sturm outside randomly so he joined in on the adventure of going to Jack's room in VMC. Bill and I were ungodly cold and begging for bed so Katie dropped us back off at the CCHams house. Crashed in the living room around 4:30 am and then ta da, here I am. Normally I despise Sundays for the sole reason of the whole work thing in the morning but today was an exception to the rule. I laid around 515 with Katie, Bill and co., just playing Guitar Hero and watching Ellen DeGeneres, still in my clothes from the night before with ratty hair, curled up on the couch, made me really miss college Sundays basically. Said my goodbyes to Bill and K-herb then chilled at home for a bit. Picked up Linds and saw "Stranger Than Fiction" at the budget theater. Surprisingly excellent movie! I guess I shouldn't use the word "surprisingly" but I wasn't expecting nearly the amount of drama or creativity involved. I can't say it was super dramatic but Will Ferrell does have a touching side to him (ala Jim Carrey in "Eternal Sunshine"). Def a two thumbs (and toes) up. Drove around for a while later, looking at all the HUGE beautiful houses along the river on Lost Dauphin. Around 10 it was finally head to head'er home and voila, here I am.

Okay so it wasn't a very witty/satire-esque post but it's a post. And yes, long. Lo siento.

12 step

This is going to take some time. With the OC being canceled, I'm trying my hardest to take baby steps, to mourn, and to find a new show. Yes, American Idol starts tomorrow. Yes, Beauty and the Geek started last week... but those are all mundane details compared to the OC. Basically the OC was at the top of my show hierarchy last year. The serfs were more like Beauty and the Geek, Airline, Intervention, Real World, Laguna, then you move up to the lords which include American Idol, Survivor, Flavor of Love... but nothing, I tell you NOTHING surpassed the king that was OC. Thursday nights at 8 PM (CT), watch out, Sara is plopping in front of the tube, don't call her, don't even dare talk to her. Mischa Barton, Benjamin McKenzie, Adam Brody, Rachel Bilson, Kelly Rowan, Peter Gallagher, Melinda Clarke, Tate Donovan, Autumn Reese, and guest stars such as Nikki Reed and Samaire Amstrong held my attention for those precious 60 minutes (sadly, I didn't look up any of the actors' names). A handful of people keep telling me "Watch 'Grey's', watch 'Grey's'" yeah well it's going to take some time. Plus everyone else in the world is hooked on that show and I'm already three seasons behind. I just don't get into hospital shows, even if there's drama sprinkled into it. I need to think about this long and hard. It's a complex process, this whole figuring out what my new show will be. I should book interviews with the directors of each show.....

This is an underwater bridge between Sweden and Denmark. Apparently my mom went through one on the East coast. It's basically a passage for ships... but how in the world do you construct one of these? An underwater Caterpillar? Scuba divers that can hold mass amounts of cement? I am baffled.
